Companies such as Enfamil* and Similac* produce cow’s milk-based formulas tailored for premature infants with high calorie content. However, these products lack warnings, guidelines, or instructions regarding the potential risks of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature babies. Many hospitals and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) incorporate these formulas into infant feedings, either as supplements to breastfeeding or as substitutes.
Feeding premature babies with cow’s milk-based formula significantly increases the risk of NEC development, yet product labels fail to adequately address this danger. Consequently, several parents whose premature infants have tragically passed away are pursuing legal action against formula manufacturers for their failure to warn about the potentially fatal complications of NEC. We are also representing parents whose preterm infants required surgery due to NEC and are facing long-term consequences.
